June 2011: From Nairobi to Zurich

Every four years, YWCAs from over 120 countries meet to determine the strategic directions, policies and leadership of the global YWCA movement, which reaches more than 25 million women, young women and girls through its programmes and outreach into over 22,000 local communities.  This July, YWCAs from around the globe came to Zurich, Switzerland for the World YWCA Council, and were joined by the broader community of partners and women activists for the International Women’s Summit on Women Creating A Safe World. This presented an opportune time to reflect on the achievements of the past four years since we last met in Nairobi.

This issue of Common Concern focuses on the last 4 years and also looks towards the future. This section of our website features a selection of articles from this issue of Common Concern. For the full edition of Common Concern, we invite you to sign up for an annual subscription, which will includes two Common Concerns , the World YWCA Annual Report  and the YWCA-YMCA Week of Prayer Booklet .
